Soul Portraits
Drawings of images born during shamanic meditation
”The nightmare of materialism, which has turned the life of the universe into an evil, useless game, is not yet past; it holds the awakening soul still in its grip.”, Wassily Kandinsky, Concerning the Spiritual in Art (1911).
I offer therapeutic Soul Portrait drawings, where I create images that emerge during a state of altered consciousness and reflect my client’s life situation.
I have received feedback that these Soul Portraits have been deeply moving, even though I knew nothing about the individuals other than their first names. Many have shared that the drawings were therapeutic, offering a sense of shared emotions. Below, you can find examples of some of my works.
You can order a drawing by contacting me via phone (+358 41 502 3651), email, or using the form at the bottom of this page. These drawings also make wonderful gifts.
My Soul Portraits were exhibited in Tampere’s Old Church during January–February 2024. More information about my work as a visual artist can be found on my website: tyrniluoto.fi.

Examples of Drawings:
These examples were created knowing only the first name of the individuals.
The shadow of a past relationship
While drawing a portrait for Anu, I envisioned a person whose face was being forcefully restrained.
After sending the image, Anu shared that she had recently ended a relationship with an aggressive partner. She described the relationship as suffocating, just as the image depicted.
Breaking free from a difficult relationship
While drawing for Eve, I envisioned a figure screaming. After sending the image, I learned that Eve had recently ended a relationship.
She also noted that her throat had been sore that same morning, making the drawing even more resonant. Additionally, blue—her favorite childhood color—was prominently featured in the image.
Loneliness
While drawing for Vuokko, I saw a figure observing a dog from afar, feeling somewhat disconnected from their surroundings.
After receiving the image, Vuokko revealed that she felt lonely in her marriage and had long dreamed of having a dog.
Stomach cramps
While creating Marjaana’s portrait, I felt a strong sensation of pain in the abdominal area, as if a stone was lodged in her stomach.
Upon receiving the drawing, Marjaana shared that she had been suffering from stomach pain for years.
Legal battles
While drawing for Merja, I envisioned a labyrinth-like situation, a person walking through fire, and clenched fists.
After giving her the drawing, Merja explained she was involved in a challenging court case where her child was at risk of being taken into custody.
The weight of daily life
While drawing for Henrik, I felt a sense of weight and cramping between the shoulder blades. I visualized a person collapsing under a heavy burden.
Henrik later told me the drawing perfectly captured his feelings.
Portraits of youth and adulthood
I asked a friend to find volunteers for my drawings. Unbeknownst to me, the same person was suggested twice—once with their childhood name and once with their current name.
For the first drawing, the subject shared that it reminded them of childhood moments spent watching birds and growing flowers with their grandmother.
For the second drawing, I sensed tinnitus, which the subject confirmed they had in both ears.
What is consciousness?
Soul Portrait drawings challenge us to question the nature of consciousness. Is there a shared consciousness accessible during meditation? Does consciousness precede matter, as idealist philosophy suggests? Or does all material possess consciousness, as in panpsychism?
Throughout human history, mystical experiences have been documented and expressed through art. Even in contemporary art, mysticism has played a role, with esoteric, occult, and spiritual movements influencing various artistic styles. For example, Hilma af Klint, a pioneer of abstract art, attributed her works to spiritual guidance.
I began my shamanic journey in earnest in 2023, though I had mystical experiences as a child. Initially, I tried to suppress them, adopting a mechanistic worldview, but later rediscovered these abilities through Soul Portraits.
Christianity is also significant to me, but I read the Bible through a lens that sees the stories of Jesus as closely related to shamanism.
